I had an Asus dual-processor motherboard that died in less than a year. It wasn't terribly stable with higher-end video cards and iffy about the memory it took. (Check out reviews of the Z8NA-D6C on the web.) When the replacement Asus board failed, I decided to go back to Giga-Byte since I'd used their board on a desktop I built in 2005 - a desktop that still runs. Just looking at the board revealed Giga-Byte's attention to detail and quality.

Two PCI x16 slots with enough room between and around them to handle large video cards (I have a PNY Quadro FX4700X2 quad-monitor output that takes up two card slots). 6 triple-channel memory modules that aren't all scrunched up against the CPU slot. Heat shields and heat sinks on the critical components (higher quality stuff than other boards I investigated). Multiple on-board USB connectors for the front panel. Boots up without a hitch and runs flawlessly. I overclocked it using the Giga-Byte EasyTune utility, which makes overclocking ridiculously easy and is very helpful given the i7 requires adjustments to Base Clock, voltages etc. Has run overclocked without blinking and has handled everything I've thrown at it. The BIOS is quite user-friendly and will make overclockers smile. While it isn't dual-processor, overclocking, tweaking the data models to run faster and having overall system stability more than make up for the lack of a second processor. I ended up liking this board so much I went back and bought a second board for my database server and snapped in a hardware RAID card. Overall, 5 stars.Had Amazon ship me another and it is working just great. I have purchased Gigabyte before and I am still running that board for over four years. So that is why I purchased Gigabyte again. Amazon was great at getting me a replacement without a lot of lip, as usual. Gigabyte is one of the better Mobo makers. So I was not too worried about the first one not being up to Gigabyte's standards. It happens. I have been building boxes for 15 years or more, so I have enough experience at this. Will purchase Gigabyte again and along with a few others according to features and price which Gigabyte is usually right up there with features (about second) and great on the price. I would have given this five stars, but the first board was broke. P.S. I have had this board for a couple of years and I am not really satisfied with it.

I started checking other X58 Mobos from other manufacturers and found that they were having boot up problems as well. So it does seems like the chipsets with these are not very stable. I notice that Kingston Ram does not even list it at all for compatible memory. You should not too much tweaking of the bios and I notice that my video card gets all out of whack when the board starts acting up. I can place an old Nividia 256 mb card in it and it boots just fine and that's only after disconnecting the power cord and let it sit for 10 minutes. Then it becomes stable again. X79 mobos and the others don't have these issues, it seems.I have I7 950 cpu, corsair 1600 ram, and gtx 580 graphics card. With this board I have set my cpu to run at 4.2,ram at 1600, and my graphics card to run at 950. The overclocking was as easy as turning a light switch on and stable as if I was running with stock settings. Never have I had any problems with any software or drivers right out of the box. Ok that is the good so I must say there is a bad side. I did set up water cooling for everything. While doing so I found the voltage transistors heat sinks have a rubber heat transfer strip between the heat sink and chips, but that is normal. But what is not normal is that the strips were not completely covering the chips. So half of each chip was not receiving any.The strips were holding the heat sinks off of the chips. That would have been a short lived mother board. Bad assembly from the factory. So I will advise, look over your board before using it. I cannot comment on the air cooling system because I installed the water cooling before turning it on. As far as I have never had any slow shipping or any problems to speak of. They are a great source to purchase your items from. Electronics or other.I had problems right from the start. Now, I've been making my own PCs for years and I'm into double figures. Never had that problem before. But is it the mobo or the chip design, who knows.

I had to bend them back very very very carefully. Next I'm particularly unhappy with the boot speed. It seems to sit for 20 seconds with a blank screen. No other mobo I've had does this. I was specifically looking for a quick reboot and that's too long for me. Next, I was seduced by the variety and number of types of PCI slot, the main reason I purchased this board. This is an area it scores well in. But I found that the slot right next to the processor is not useable because it's blocked by the processor heatsink. I guess I used the wrong heatsink, oh well. But in any case, it'd be only useable with a small PCIe card too because it's also blocked by the mobo heatsink. I like the HD connectors on the edge of the board, this is quite useful. In general I'd like to make a plea to mobo manufacturers that they adopt some tips from Apple and stop scattering the various connectors across the 4 corners of the mobo. Perhaps some more standards in connectors and positions would help us reduce the wiring and the length of wiring. Finally, I've had quite a few reboot blue-screens with this board. And quite a few Grub messages.
